Day 1: Airport Travel Day & Arriving in Maui

Day 1: Airport Travel Day & Arriving in Maui

Day 1-Tuesday, August 27

Running off a couple hours of sleep, but we made it…On to the plane that is. It’s already been quite the eventful day. Right as we got to the airport my stomach growled. We got through security, & I was on the hunt for food. Christopher wanted a beer (airport tradition). It was 7AM, but 5o’clock somewhere. We got the EXTRA hungry Duck from Ducky’s, & bored the plane feeling satisfied. As we sat down, it was immediate laughter. We were geeked out about who knows what, but there’s truly never a dull moment. I felt sorry for the dude next to us, because we didn’t stop laughing the entire time to Denver.

We get off the plane, zero rush since we have some time. We grab Christopher a burger from Shake Shack and I get the egg white breakfast sandwich from Starbucks. We snag a protein shake & some Uncrustable PB & J’s, because we are always hungry, so we need snacks on snacks for this next long flight.

Our flight gets delayed. Fuel leakage. Don’t want to take a chance with that. We are un-phased by the delay and spend our time by setting up the tripod and making a silly real. I always find ways to embarrass Christopher in public.

They find us a new plane. The flights not full, so we end up moving seats so we can have row to ourselves. They serve a meal on the plane, we catch some Z’s, watch some shows and play some games. Christopher got me hooked on 2048. If you’ve never played it, look it up.

Finally we are in Maui, Hawaii. Let the adventure begin!

We grab our rental car. We got a fun convertible mustang! Top down, jamming out, taking in all the views, ocean on one side, mountains on the other. God is good.

First stop, our Tentalow at Camp Olowalu! Straight from google- it’s when a tent and a bungalow have a baby. It’s a tent on top of a wooden frame platform. We have a little outdoor shower, sink, and two little twin beds. There are roosters walking around everywhere. You can see the water from our front porch. Other than some lizards sneaking in, it’s pretty darn close to glamping.

After we get all settled in, we go for a little drive and swing by the grocery store to grab a pre-made cesar salad with chicken, some local sweet bread, bagels, guava jelly, and some other little snacks to hold us over. We always have snacks on hand, which is probably why we never fight. Pro-tip: never go hangry.

With the 6 hour time change, being up for over 24 hours after only getting a couple hours of sleep, we are ready for bed nice and early. We watch a little Netflix (Currently addicted to Narcos, we started this when we were in Mexico). Christopher’s highlight was getting us a new plane and officially heading to Hawaii, and my highlight was the views from our campsite.

A little more background on our brand... Highlight is one of our key words, because every night before bed, Christopher asks me my highlight, and we share our favorite part of the day.

Thanks.

Thanks is another simple word we share, talking to God, and then to each other. The first time Christopher said “thanks” to me, I said, “for what?” He responded, “I’m not talking to you.” And it stuck.

What a perfect start to the trip. Stay tuned. The best is always yet to come.
