Day 11: Sunrise & off to New Zealand
Share
Friday, September 6th
We were up early to head to the airport today. We wanted to give ourselves a safe amount of time to return the rental car, check bags, and get through security.
As we walk up to the car we were wondering why there were so many cars. Right as I said, maybe for sunset we look over to our left and BOOM the sun is rising over the ocean right over the cliffs. It was one of the most beautiful views I have ever seen. The most magical start to the day. God never ceases to amaze me with the beauty of this earth.
We get to the airport and on our flight no problem. We filled out our New Zealand ETA ahead of time, so we had no troubles. We were worry free this time.
Common sayings here- No worries (instead of you’re welcome or no problem), queue (a line you wait in), trolly (grocery cart), take-away (to-go food), rubbish (garbage) kiwi (a local/native in New Zealand). I’ll add more to the list as we go.
We go to pick up our camper van. We used a company called Britz. The van says Maui on it, which is ironic considering we were just there. It’s HUGE! Way bigger than I expected. I thought we were going to have a little dinky van and be roughing it these next couple weeks, but little did I know we had a hotel on wheels and we were going to be glamping. I am 10x more excited now!
First stop is to get some warmer clothes, a hat, and gloves. We go to a place called the Warehouse, which said it was like their Walmart here, except it was far worse. They had nothing. We decided to just go to a Woolworth grocery store, load up, and head to our campsite.
We find one that’s only an hour from the airport, has power, and is free! So we make this our first stop.
The parking lot is CRAZY here. Turns out it’s where they play rugby, and there’s a little local bar. People party hard here.
We park the van off to the side just so we can eat and regroup.
I get some journaling done, and we are ready for sleep. Once again, we have the same highlight. This is a common trend when there’s typically always one great spectacular part of our day, which today was the sunrise. The videos and pictures just don’t do it justice.
