Day 18: Rainy Day & the International Antarctic Centre

Day 18: Rainy Day & the International Antarctic Centre

Friday, September 13th

Y’all will not believe what I did last night. Actually, you will…

At 9:35 pm last night, I walked to take the trash out. Pitch black. I just opened up the side van door & tried to get into someone else’s campervan. I couldn’t breathe I was laughing so hard. It was this super nice Asian couple, thank the lord. They thought it was hilarious too, & we were all laughing. I Christopher was already sleeping, & I had to wake him to tell him. He thought I was messing with him. He couldn’t believe I just barged in to someone else’s campervan. What an epic moment. One time we did this as children at the grocery store all of us kids piled into the wrong minivan, and then realized there was a birthday cake. We said, wait did mom get a cake?! Then we all run out of the van and my mom goes, “what are you kids doing over there?!” This is what we call “Hannah things”.

Slow start to the morning, since it’s rainy our agenda got re-arranged. No worries. We have had incredible weather our whole trip, so we were bound to have a rainy day eventually. We decided to head south and stay on the east side of the island. Even with the rain and clouds, we still had some decent views. We made a few stops at random lookout points. We stopped at the “Emporium of lost treasures” in a small town and goofed off while looking at thrift stuff. It was in a neat building and had a cute little cafe.

We then went to McDonald’s (Christopher’s favorite even if he won’t admit it) LOL to get some coffee and he got a plain chicken sandwich and a little mini 3 piece mozzarella sticks.

We stopped by the International Antarctic Centre on our way down to Geraldine. If you have the time, I highly recommend it! We didn’t buy tickets to do the whole thing, but it was still neat to swing by.

I slept a lot in the car. It’s true how working out gives you energy! It’s hard for me to have inactive days, and Christopher thanked me for being a good sport. LOL I am like a child that needs to be active!

Once we got to Geraldine, despite the crummy weather, it’s a cute town! If you’ve been keeping up thus far, you can probably guess where we are staying… Another Top 10 Holiday Park. We want to ensure we have power & clean bathrooms with this chilly weather. Which they never disappoint!

We get to the campsite and they have a cute little TV room. We go to chill in there. I brought all my bands and ended up getting a killer workout in while Christopher worked on organizing photos. We also played a funny little card game called “is it me? is it you?” where it gives you silly scenarios and you choose which one of you is more likely to do the given.

We are hitting the hay early tonight so we can get some good hiking and better adventures in tomorrow. My highlight was working out in the TV room like a crazy lady, and Christopher had two highlights: taking a pee at the top of the mountain and then walking out of the cafe connected to the thrift store in the old building and saying “eff this let’s go to McDonald’s” SEEEEEEE, I told y’all it’s his fav. HAHA
