Day 2: Road to Hana & Hikes

Day 2- Wednesday, August 28
We wake up to a nice morning mist. We shower outside in the rain. The private outdoor shower is probably the coolest thing about our little tentalow.
We stop at a local coffee shop called Island Press. We are in desperate need of some caffeine. We got some ahhhh-mazing breakfast croissant sandwiches. I got one with ham & cheese, Christopher got bacon. You could add an egg for $1, which of course we did, cause we needed the extra protein. We both agreed, mine was better. We had a productive morning knocking out work and putting together content, and I began this blog.
We stop by the little convenience store across from our campsite. We got some new water bottles before the trip, & I had the bright idea to decorate them with stickers from everywhere we go so we can have a cheap little souvenir & memory from all of our stops!
We go on a little adventure along Road to Hana. It get’s down to one lane, and the weather isn’t looking so good, so we decide to turn around. We drove through Kapalua. We got some incredible drone shots driving & got out to explore a bit in Kā’anapali - Kahakuloa. We did a little hike through Honolua park down to the water. There are chickens roaming all over this island! We feel like we are in the middle of a jungle. We get down to the water where it’s all stones. Christopher got to skip some rocks, his fav. We couldn’t get in the water. When it rains, the water can get contaminated from the run off. We still enjoyed our time and hit the road to continue on our adventure.
Next stop is our big hike at Wailuku - Waihe’e trail where we hiked to the ridge summit trail all the way to the peak. We ended up doing over 5 miles, because we low-key got lost, which was beyond comical. Somehow we got off the trail and ended up where the animals roam, which I joked and said it’s because we are animals. It was so foggy out. I was making Christopher nervous, because I love to look out over the huge drops. It was also pretty slippery out from the on and off rain all day. We got filthy but had a blast. We got to see two gorgeous waterfalls along our hike and get some really cool drone shots as well. Be sure to watch some reels on IG for the footage.
On our way down we saw a huge snail in an actual sea shell. I’m talking about the ones people pay for and collect. It was crazy, because it was no where near the water! How the heck did it get up here?! I of course needed a photo with this snail. Out of all the beautiful sites, I’m most amazed by this. LOL
We are ready for some food. We go to Nalu’s South Shore Grill. Christopher made a joke about ordering our food in line as we waited to be seated, and then we realized you actually order your food, sit down, and then they bring it to you! They have great live music. An adorable elder couple gets up and does a little dance. Ahí tuna salad for me and Christopher gets a burger and chicken and waffles.
We head back, wash up, share our highlights (both of our highlights were hiking the ridge) & pass out.
