Day 3: Goats in Hawaii?

Day 3: Goats in Hawaii?

Thursday, August 29th

First stop today, Java cafe. No AC, but great coffee. We have some work to get done, so we head to a different cafe to be a little more comfortable. Akamai cafe is our next stop. They don’t have any Wi-Fi. It’s to promote human connection, which is such a cool concept, except not so great for us when we are coming in solely to get work done and need Wi-Fi. It was such a cute cafe, so Christopher got a giant cinnamon roll, and we did what we were able to with our hot spots.

We stopped into this little shop and got matching gold MAUI bracelets. We love having matching everything. Yes, we are that couple. We even get matching shoes, whether it’s our gym shoes, Birkenstocks, or casual sneakers.

We head to grab breakfast at Kihei Cafe. You order your food, then go sit down, and they bring it to you. Chickens are walking around everywhere. There were some cute little babies too. After breakfast we explored the area a little more. We stumble across a Food Truck Oasis. It was so neat. I have never seen so many food trucks in one place. There was also a little “secret garden” and other cool little shops.

We venture out on our first little hike of the day Hoapili Trail. This side of the island is definitely nicer. It was a gorgeous drive getting here. This trail we hiked surprised us. We had no idea what to expect. There were goats EVERYWHERE! They were so cute. This area was used for bomb testing during World War Two. It’s a very easy trail to take. There were really cool areas where the water splashed up so far and then would fall down between the rocks and create water falls. Christopher got a video of me, and a splash got on his phone that created a rainbow in the entire video.

We decided to head to the other side of the island, but there was an accident so the road was closed. With all the narrow roads, this can cause a huge detour and double your drive time. We stumbled across the Twin Falls. This is another super easy hike! We saw people of all ages hiking. It was rainy again today, so the water was mucky, but it was so neat and beautiful.

We keep driving along the Road to Hana and stop at a couple cool lookouts. The beauty on this island is endless. We are jamming to Chris Stapleton (I love when Christopher sings Loving You on my Miiiiiiiiind) with the top down, enjoying the sunset, and simply loving life. So many trucks drove by us with people chilling in lawn chairs in the truck bed. Everyone around us is just living their best lives.

We go back to the same area for dinner. We stop by O’hana Seafood Bar & Grill for a salad and some coconut shrimp. There’s amazing live music. We got lucky two nights in a row with this!

We decide to go to another place to grab an entree. It was called Three’s Bar & Grill. It was delicious and a great atmosphere. I got sashimi and Christopher got a pork quesadilla. We ended up talking with the manager for a little. Her and her husband did a 6 month honeymoon backpacking all over Asia. It was so neat exchanging stories. Maui seems like a lot of people just like us. It’s so cool, because we all have different backgrounds and come from all over the world, but we all love travel & adventure. The manager then brings us out some extra garlic noodles, (on the house) which were delicious. We always make so many friends and feel right at home everywhere we go.

On the drive home I want dessert. We passed a McDonalds. I joked and said I wanted a McFlurry, but Christopher took a sharp turn and made it happen. We jam out the entire ride home.

We wash up and wind down for bed. Both of our highlights for today was our first hike with all the black rocks and the water splashing up. You’ll have to check instagram to see the cool videos of this, but truthfully, the photos and videos never do these views any justice.
