Day 43: Abbey Road, Buckingham Palace, My Old Dutch Pancake

Day 43: Abbey Road, Buckingham Palace, My Old Dutch Pancake

Tuesday, October 8th

We wake up nice and early. We head out and stop at Caffè Nero. Christopher gets his favorite breakfast sandwich yet. We pop in and out of a few stores, still on the hunt for a coat for me, and Christopher ends up finding some cool jeans from Zara.

We stopped and got lunch at Pret A Manger. We shared a ham sandwich and a salad. I started drinking oat cappuccinos, because all the almond drinks here taste like amaretto.

We finally get to Abbey Road to take the iconic Beatles photo in the crosswalk. It was so funny watching other tourists try to take photos. Since it’s just a normal road, locals get very annoyed. Christopher and I were like pros. We ran through so quick and snapped some great ones.

We took the train back to Buckingham palace. It’s been raining on and off all day. We then get to Trafalgar Square. This is where Nelson’s Column is which is a big monument surrounded by lion statues. There’s a beautiful fountain in the center as well, and all the buildings surrounding are gorgeous. Right as we got there, a rainbow appeared, and Christopher got his favorite photo in all of London on his actual camera.

We stopped at Nag’s Head, a neat pub, on our way back to the hotel. I got a salad, Christopher got a couple beers and some chicken tenders.

We ended up booking another night at the Z hotel, because it’s the cheapest place to stay nearby, and we know it’s clean and the best location. We come back to recharge and regroup before we head back out to grab more food.

We end up stumbling across a place called My Old Dutch. It’s a pancake house. Christopher immediately starts laughing and tells me I’m so easy to please. If you know me, you know I’ll eat breakfast all day, everyday. I don’t need anything other than eggs, and some sort of bread (preferably a sweet one) & butter to survive. Bless Christopher’s heart, because it’s where we went for dinner. He ended up building his own sweet stack with biscoff cookie crumble & sauce, and I built a 15-inch “crepe” styled pancake as if it were a pizza so we could get some protein in. I joked and said he was having a beer at breakfast, but really it was breakfast for dinner.

We then went back across the street to one of the coolest pub’s we have ever been to called Princess Louise. It is a Victorian style bar with tiling, oak furnishing, and etched glass panels. It was built in 1872. It had little dividers between every table and they all surrounded the bar. Christopher got a beer and I got a Cider that he helped me drink.

My highlight today was taking photos at Abbey Road. It’s so fun to do the silly tourist things some times. Christopher’s highlight was the pancake house. This made me super happy, because I am glad he enjoyed my crazy idea of breakfast for dinner. It was cool how packed it was and it was so funny to be there so late in the evening eating breakfast. It was adorable inside as well with cute neon signs all over and the staff was great.
