Day 51: Roadtrip Through France to Switzerland

Day 51: Roadtrip Through France to Switzerland

Wednesday, October 16th

We slept in after being up super late last night. It was nice to not be in a rush this morning. We took some photos of our Airbnb and hit the road. Switzerland here we come!

We stopped in Polygny France. It was adorable. We got out to get some steps in and walk around to explore. This is the best part about road trips! I love driving through all the small towns.

Next we stopped in Champagnole. It’s like Spain where they have siesta. Everything is closed midday from about noon-2pm. So we just did a little loop around the downtown area and hit the road again.

We made it to Interlaken at a decent hour. We found a cute little hotel called  Hotel Beausite. Immediately, we felt like we were in Heaven. It’s like we are living in a postcard. The entire town is picture perfect. The water is the most beautiful shade of view, just like the lakes in New Zealand. This town reminds us so much of New Zealand, which we LOVE. There were paragliders everywhere! All of the houses are so beautiful. There are watch stores EVERYWHERE also! Oh, and chocolate!

We ate just down the street from us at a homey restaurant that served traditional Swiss food called Restaurant Bären. They served deer, horse, goat, lamb, and cow meat. We kept it simple & got a salad, chicken, rice, & vegetables. It was incredible. Our waitress was from Spain, and she was wonderful!

Then for dessert we got apple pie & a traditional dessert called Vermicelles.

It looks like spaghetti, but it’s made from chestnut purée. Both came with whipped cream & ice cream. My mouth is watering just thinking about it again! I wasn’t a huge fan of the chestnut purée, but the meringue part underneath it was amazing, and whipped cream is my FAVORITE.

My highlight today was the endless beauty and character of all the towns we drove through and all the beauty of the water and snow capped mountains, and pretty much every minute of the entire day. Christopher’s highlight was scurrying out the door once we arrived to go on a walk. We were so excited that we didn’t even bring our bags up to the hotel room, because we couldn’t wait to explore! We really are GO! GO! GO! There’s so much to do and so much to see! Endless adventures await.
