Day 54: Monaco & Nice

Saturday, October 19th
We wake up in Italy and go outside to see the beach. It was such a gorgeous view. We said to one another “we’re in Italy”. I love that we do this in every country we’re in. Christopher always just repeat, “we’re in Switzerland, or France, Italy, Etc.” and we just kiss and take in the moment. I love when we pause and take it all in.
The drive today was beautiful. It was crazy how many tunnels we drove through the mountains. We got to stop in Monaco. It was just as gorgeous as I remembered. I was so happy that we got to stop and park and walk around a little bit. We checked out the casino and a park. We went and took a photo near the same spot that my Dad and I did over 10 years ago. It’s also like a car show here. There are classic old cars along with brand new Bentleys. It was such a cool afternoon.
As we drove through Nice, we got to see Est Littoral, and the Monument Aux Morts. We went straight to return our rental car. We return the car a couple hours late, but he did not charge us. The man was super kind and helpful. Sixt has always been great for us. He offered to hold our luggage even though they’re not allowed and said he could hold it until he closed at 5, but we ended up being able to pay $10 to hold our luggage at the hotel next-door.
We then ventured out to explore the city. We have the entire day, because we don’t fly out until late. We went to Jean Medecin. We ate a nice meal at 3 Brasseurs, I got a salmon (it was AMAZING) & Christopher got a pizza, and then explored old town. We got to watch the sunset on the beach. It was so nice to sit and relax and take it all in. For our last stop, we went up to the rooftop of the hotel that was holding our luggage, La Maridien, and enjoyed a glass of wine.
We got an Uber to the airport. As we were driving, Christopher remembered that he never filled the tank before we returned the rental car. We were dying laughing. Oopsies! So we’re gonna have to check the bill again on that one.
We got to the airport super early. Our flight was at 11:25pm. They opened up boarding two hours prior. We had a blast at the airport making silly videos for transition reels and then we had a great time laughing and being goofy on the plane. Traveling with your best friend is the greatest gift.
My highlight today was watching the sunset on the beach and then watching the afterglow from the rooftop. Christopher just told me I take the good ones every time (for the highlights) cause I tell him mine as I first type it and then ask him his. His highlight was earlier in the day when he spilled coffee all over the car. I totally forgot about this while we were at a rest stop! He said it’s his highlight because it shouldn’t be a highlight. He just liked the fact that neither of us got mad, we cleaned it up, and just laughed like crazy over it. We both rushed to clean up and help each other. It was super cute, because he went back in after we were done cleaning and got me a new one, even though I told him I was totally fine. He truly is so sweet to me, and I am beyond grateful for this. Honestly, it’s always during the worst moments that I feel the happiest we have one another. It’s easy to get along and never fight when times are great, but it makes my heart so happy that during the most stressful situations we act as a team and always work together. Sure, it was just spilled coffee, but it’s just a simple example. I love our love.
