Day 58: Naples Italy

Day 58: Naples Italy

Wednesday, October 23rd

Our FIRST DAY!!!!! I was up and at em this morning. I awoke, got ready, and grabbed some coffees for Christopher and I. I let Christopher sleep in, because I knew it was going to be a long day. I went up to the top floor and walked around the ship as the sun was coming up over Mount Vesuvius. It was such a beautiful view. On the other side of the ship I could see the Island of Capri. You could also see a couple of castles from the ship as well. I did 50 minutes of fasted cardio on the elliptical and got in a little pump. I woke Christopher up and then we got breakfast together.  It feels so. good to be eating egg white omelets and healthy food again. There is ENDLESS food on cruises, but it is SO EASY to choose healthy options! You just have to have the self-control to not go overboard on the rest ;)

We took our time getting off the ship. We weren’t in a rush, because we decided to stay near the ship today. We really wanted to go to Sorrento or Capri, but they would have been a far trip. After seeing all the crazy crowds in Rome, we weren’t dying to go to Pompeii. We got to see so many ruins in Rome, and we will see plenty more in Greece! We were just so happy to be able to see the beautiful views right from our ship! We ended up doing the hop on hop off official bus tour, but got off after a few stops. It didn’t take you that far, it was hard to hear the lady speaking, and we could walk faster than the busses could drive through the more congested areas, along with the busses being full and having to wait extra for the next one to come. Another lesson learned, bus tours are not for us. It was nice to see a few views from up above on the second floor of the bus for a bit, but we enjoy walking more! While we were in line, we figured we wouldn’t like it that much, but we knew we would probably never do one again, so we wanted to try it out, and we were glad we did. The town of Naples close to the port isn’t the nicest, so we headed back to the ship after a little exploring and running errands. We had to stop by the store to pick up some conditioner and toothpaste since we are almost out. I never want to “bash” an area, because I know there is probably so many amazing things we didn’t get the chance to see. I always like to keep it real and not sugar coat things, but at the same time I don’t want to be a negative Nancy. Naples is beautiful in its own way. It just wasn’t our cup of tea! This is our personal experience. I am sure there’s plenty of places where we have the BEST experiences and others don’t! It all just depends :)

Once we got back to the ship, we got some lunch (I made a big healthy salad and Christopher ate a plane burger, and we both munched on some other little things), and then it was time to GRIND. I was excited because I had an old client from years ago sign back up today, and Christopher needed to catch up on work. I got a bunch of journaling done. We laughed as we talked about how nice it’s going to feel when we are home working. It really has been a hassle trying to get good wifi or even find a nice working space. Many cafes in Paris don’t even allow you to work on your laptop inside. Sure you can work at a Starbucks or a Pret A Manger, but that’s no fun. They are often dirty or just overly crowded. We love Europe and all the history, the architecture, and more, but there are so many little things that make us so grateful for America. Some people don’t realize how good we have it. Sure, America has some cons too, but, we are truly blessed and so grateful to be citizens of the USA. Also, vacation and travel makes you appreciate routine. I know not everyone loves their job and to work, but we both genuinely enjoy working and being productive! We also thrive with structure and routine. Christopher joked and said he’s going to feel like he has 48 hours in one day, because we have been doing so much planning, exploring, booking, etc. on top of working. Once we are home, we will have so much time to put together content, focus on our brand Nothing., and continue to grow in other areas, on top of our daily work.

Side note: It is so comical watching adults walk by double fisting with ice cream cones…One chocolate, one vanilla. They have self serve ice cream machines all day long. I think the adults take advantage of this more than the kids. People also walk by with plates loaded with food stacked on top of more plates loaded with food. Christopher saw one lady bringing three pizzas back to her room. Hey, gotta get your moneys worth on the ship with all the complementary restaurants & cafes.

We worked for quite some time with the lovely view of Naples. We grabbed a snack from the Mexican place and then we hit the gym.

After our workout we showered & got dressed for dinner. It was casual night again, so we wore jeans but still ate at the main dining room. We were seated to a lovely couple next to us named Brenda and Glenn. Aka “Glenda” ;) I accidentally said this when I repeated the names back and she said that’s not the first time it’s happened. They have two children and have been married over 40 years. We had so much fun chatting all dinner. Our waitress was hilarious & we had a wonderful experience. I tried some, which was delicious. Christopher had lasagne and then he also got grilled chicken. You can order as many appetizers, entrees, desserts, etc. as you want. They even brought us extra cookies and tiramisu to take “home”.

My highlight today was visiting with the couple next to us at dinner. Christopher’s highlight was the bus tour because it was so ridiculous. He loves to choose the “worst” yet best parts of our day as his highlight, cause it always ends in laughter.
