Day 6: G’day
Share
First day of spring in Australia! It is Sunday, September 1st.
We skipped a day. This day is short. Christopher had originally reserved us a cool Subaru to rent for our week here. They screwed up our reservation, so luckily we got a free upgrade. We got a Nissan x-Trail that was brand new. After a long travel day, we were pretty hyped about this. God always has our back.
We have no destination. We get in the car and start driving. Christopher is a confident man. I have never seen him so unsure in his life driving on the left side of the road. I am dying laughing…That is until he almost takes the mirror off on a pole. I was positive he was going to wreck the rental. We end up finding a parking garage to grab a coffee, a snack, and figure out a plan. We end up at a little café called Macchiato. Our server was amazing. She was actually from France. We both got long blacks. That is Australia’s version of Americanos.
We decided to use Christopher’s credit card points to book a hotel at the W. If you have never heard of the W hotel look up the one in Sydney because it is absolutely breathtaking. Everything is way better when it’s free. ;) We both agree that this is the COOLEST hotel we have both ever stayed at in our lives.
We make this our next destination just so we could not have to worry about the car anymore. We regroup once we get to our room and then we explore the marina. Everywhere we keep going I keep saying I want to move here. My first thoughts on Sydney is a bigger, cleaner, and in my opinion cooler version of Chicago.
We get our complementary drink at the bar in the W hotel. Cheers to our first night in Australia & making it safely.
We walk along the marina to find a place to eat. Even the walking traffic is on the left side. We get dinner at a place called I’m Angus. I get a garlic prawns and a salad, and Christopher got a wagyu burger, which he wasn’t crazy about. I loved my “shrimp” though!
I got a scoop of gelato at Gelatissimo for a little dessert.
We had back to the hotel and fall asleep so quick. We are DEAD.
Highlight today for me was the view of the marina and taking in our first looks of Sydney and looking at each other countless times saying “we’re in Australia” and kissing. Christopher’s highlight was when he almost hit the pole on the left side of the car. He said he has never seen me scared. LOL I am not going to lie, I was 99.9% he was going to take the mirror off. But hey, not a single scratch… yet…
